Heliophysics Summer School FAQs
What travel support is included for students who get accepted to the summer school? Students will receive lodging in a shared room with one other student, per diem, airfare, baggage fees, and ground transportation with a cap of $150. If you are local to Boulder, you will not receive lodging, airfare, per diem, or the ground transportation.
What will lodging look like for the summer school? You will be in a hotel close to where the summer school will be held. You will be in a shared room with one other student for the duration of the summer school.
Where will the summer school take place? The summer school takes place at UCAR’s Center Green facility, located at 3080 Center Green Drive in Boulder, CO.
Should I book my plane ticket? No, we have travel coordinators who will reach out to you, once accepted, to book your travel.
Is it required that I attend every day of the summer school? Yes, this is a requirement.
Do I need to keep my meal receipts to get my per diem? No, the per diem is a set amount. You will receive the set amount after the summer school is over. We will subtract the meals that we are providing. Since your hotel offers breakfast, you will not receive that per diem either.
Why am I given $150 for ground transportation? You will fly into Denver International Airport and will be responsible for finding a ride from the airport to your hotel in Boulder. This will also be the case when you fly out and need a ride from your hotel in Boulder back to the airport. We will send suggestions closer to the start of the summer school.
What is the weather like in Boulder? We suggest you dress for warm weather, but do have a sweater or jacket for both evenings and the Center Green Building, which routinely is kept cooler with air conditioning. Most people in Boulder dress casually, but dress in a way that makes you most comfortable.
I have a poster I would like to share. Will there be a poster session? We will have poster boards available. You will just need to let us know if you are planning to bring one and we will provide the poster for you. You will be able to view the posters at the opening reception and on the breaks provided throughout the summer school.
When is the deadline to apply? You will need to apply by January 31st, 2026, by 5:00 pm MST.
When does my Statement of Recommendation need to be completed? This needs to be completed by January 31st, 2026, by 5:00 pm MST.
